I have previously posted about my issues and dealings with Carrick Wealth/ Carrick capital. I have dealt with Mr Fannin and Craig Featherby over a year ago and Carrick continue to deny claims in an attempt to protect themselves.

I personally met with Mike Fannin on a number of times in Cape Town and also in London in the UK, he gave me advice without being regulated, My friend Karl meet with Craig Featherby in Cape Town also and had regular email contact with him which he is now going to post as we and not being called liars over something that actually occurred.

Carrick claim they were licensed in August 2014 please see the dates of the files attached one from the FSB and other is an Email from Mike Fannin himself.

I have also contacted Carrick legal like requested to do so on another post and they have yet to reply.

Herewith please find attached the official response from the FSB, dated September 3, 2014.

As you can clearly see, the FSB confirms that it “could not find any evidence to support the allegations made by the complainant (Mr Karl Edwards)”

There is a distinction between providing information and options as opposed to providing advice. The information you refer to in your email correspondence with Mike Fannin is available in the public domain and does NOT constitute giving advice. This would only be given in the form of an official “Advice Record” and will have been preceded with you having signed an “Appointment of Advisor” form, authorising Mike Fannin to provide you with advice. No such form exists, which would imply that it was information as opposed to advice that was given to you. Additionally no investment recommendations or decisions would have been made without said documentation being in place.

In one of your earlier “reviews” you make reference to Metropolitan Police case numbers and complaints lodged with the FCA, I can confirm that we have not received any notification of these enquiries, but are following them up with the relevant authorities from our side to ascertain their validity and status.

I can acknowledge that we received your email to Carrick Legal. In light of the above, we have chosen not to respond until such time as we have concluded our investigations.

Harassment of clients

Mike Fannin the Sales Director of Carrick Wealth and boyfriend of local radio KFM.ZA presenter Liezel Van Der Westhuizen is arrested for the second time this year for witness intimidation.

Mike Fannin has been arrested this year previously for criminal damage to a clients car and now arrested for harassment and stalking clients who have court orders against him.

These people at Carrick Wealth condole this behaviour and the CEO Craig Featherby has done nothing to stop this behaviour, Craig Featherby encourages this behaviour in an attempt to pressure clients into handing over money.

Carrick Wealth are not a company to deal with and not to be trusted, the following members of the management team all have previous criminal records, Brett Taylor, Mike Fannin, Mike Potts, and Kieron McRae.

There are several issues in your post which need to be addressed.

The allegations of the arrests and charges against Mike Fannin are unfounded and are not the subject of any ongoing legal action. We would request that any information that you may have in this regard be brought to the attention of our legal team.

There is also no justification for bringing an external, unrelated 3rd party into the complaint. The individual involved has no bearing on the business of Carrick or the allegations made.

You make a further allegation that other members of the management team have criminal records. On what basis and evidence do you make these allegations? Your statements are false, wholly unsubstantiated, slanderous and intended to be malicious so as to bring the individuals into disrepute. As above, we would request that any information that you may have in this regard be brought to the attention of our legal team. Please forward such proof to legal@carrickfs.com

Carrick Wealth and the Belverdere scandal

I used to work with the CEO of Carrick Wealth Craig Featherby and I can confirm that him and Cobus Kellermann had regular meetings and discussions, Craig and Cobus are indeed close friends and have in the past being involved in a number of business matters together.

Craig Featherby used to attend functions with Cobus Kellermann so It is not surprising that he came to light in the Belverdere Scandal. I am sure Craig Featherby has taken peoples money and invested it himself personally into the Belverdere platform.

The information I have about this I am happy to disclose to any reporter and provide documentation to back these claims up.

Carrick Visa lies

I started working for Carrick financial services back in september 2014 and was promised that my Visa application would be all sorted, I have recently had to leave my job as they never helped arrange a Visa and I have been working illegally.

I am now extremely disappointed and feel as if I was just lied to just to try and help them boost numbers in the offices, I now have the problems of losing my apartment and technically being homeless due to these liars and will have to move back to the UK.

I would also like to take the time to thank these total idiots with no respect for anyone, so thank you Craig Featherby, Brett Taylor, Kieron Mcrae, and Mike Potts for making me part of your total scam projectI hope the police catch up with you all when they find out what you are really unto behind closed doors.

Being a registered and regulated in South Africa means that Carrick is bound by not only the regulations that pertain to the financial services industry, but also the laws of the country.

South African law dictates that no foreign national may be employed without being in procession of a valid work permit, furthermore the FSB (Financial Services Board) requires that each representative who provides advice to clients be recorded on a “Representative Register”. Such registration is not possible without requisite paperwork and proofs (a work permit in the case of a foreign national would be such a requirement). It is not Carrick’s policy to employ any individual who does not comply with any of the requirements stated above, not to employ anybody who does not comply with the requirements as laid out in the FAIS Act which states that representative need to be “Fit and Proper”

Should an employment opportunity have been offered to you, these requirements would have been expressly stipulated at the commencement of the process. Said offer would have been retracted should it have been found that all the prerequisites were not met.

I have worked for this bunch of cowboys and now left as I couldn't bare it no longer.

Well when I first joined them I was promised excellent commission rates and a great work place.......

This is all a big fat lie as I never seen any money as they didn't have any clients and all that really went on is everyone of the sales team were more bothered about partying and sleeping with each.

None of the management really want to work either as they seemed more occupied with other matters that seemed very corrupt... This all said it left me no option but to leave and my message to anyone considering these crooks just stay clear and save yourself the hassle and hardship.

While it is true that employment in our organization (and the Financial Services industry) in general offers a challenging environment and good remuneration in the form of commissions, there are also no guarantees or that each individual employed will be a good fit with the culture of the company.

The culture that you are describing is in no ways condoned by the leadership team, nor would it be tolerated if they became aware of such a culture existing.

Our industry is highly regulated by the FSB (Financial Services Board) and should you be aware of any “corrupt activity” it should be reported by means of a formal complaint and request to investigate.

Carrick owners leaving to join other companies

I have also had the experience of working for Carrick and it was very pleasant at all and it really dragged my mood down as the staff they have working for them are inexperienced and the vast majority don't have any financial background and some were just checkout assistant at Pick and Pay, this started to concern myself and then the alarm bells started to ring when the owner of Carrick Craig Featherby and also Mike Fannin have been attending other job interviews at other financial service companies in South Africa so this got me concerned and I decided to leave as this is a tell tale sign of a company going under in my eyes.

I also didn't get along with Sam Bowen who was constantly snapping at members of staff for no real reasons.

Amongst other requirements, the Act calls for advisors to meet certain standards and criteria and meet the definition of “fit and proper” as defined in the act.

In order to ensure that we meet (and in most cases, exceed) these requirements, Carrick has an extremely robust recruitment process aimed at attracting and developing the very best talent available in the market. Being a business with its routes in Africa, we are committed to providing opportunities to people from all walks of life, provided they meet the criteria we have. Therefore, we prefer to measure potential candidates based on their actual ability rather than discriminate solely on where they may or may not have been employed in the past. Unfortunately we are not prepared to comment on individuals seeking other opportunities (be they Directors or anybody else for that matter). Individuals, regardless of their position in an organization are free to pursue opportunities wherever they feel they may be appropriate. I am so happy that I can across these posts about Carrick and certain members of staff that work for them, I will now go elsewhere and use a more trustworthy company as if I wanted to be robbed of all my money I would go for a stroll through the Cape Flats.

If you are foolish enough to believe a silly lie you see on the net without doing your own investigation, then you are in line to be defrauded by Carrick's competitors who feel threatened. Any man worth his salt will certainly have lots of enemies!

Go to the FSB for example and ask if they have ever received a Carrick complaint! Look up their consultants on linkedin and see if they are not qualified etc.

That's what I would call wisdom! I have had nothing but a great experience with Carrick and recently found out first hand that one of their competitor is spreading lies about them.

Carrick Ex employee

I have recently left Carrick Financial Services after working for them for a few months, the reasons behind leaving is that the management is extremely poor and a lack of direction and give no help to the staff let alone the clients (no clients really it is all lies and everyone is struggling to get by). I would never work in such conditions as this again and hope other people don't make the silly mistakes like I did, I know of other guys and girls who work at Carrick Financial Services are also about to leave or going through the process of leaving due to the same reasons as mine.

I am now happy I have left and can actually do the job I love and been able to provide financial advice to clients and not lying to them about how many clients i don't have to attempt to get a deal.

I am sure that now I have posted on here the management at Carrick will be sending me threatening emails and phone calls etc.

Carrick Wealth harassment

I have recently been contacted by a number of different members from Carrick Financial Services attempting to get me to do some sort of business with themselves. I have done my research into this company and nothing seems to fit right they seem very unprofessional and the people I have spoken to do not seem even qualified to watch my children for even a hour let alone my savings.

I have lived in South Africa all my life and yet have never came across scams like this other than people from the Cape Flats trying to mug you at an ATM. The guys on the phone said the didn't get any of my money but when I pressed them about how they made money they explained that they work on a commission basis that does not make sense to me!!

The guy then slipped up and told me what fees he would then take, I honestly find this company extremely unprofessional and inadequate to be trusted with peoples money. If Nazeer Essop contacts me again I will see red!!!!!!

In terms of South African legislation, all fees that are payable have to be fully disclosed, explained and agreed by the client before they are due. The same is true of the commission that is earned on each transaction by the advisor and the brokerage

Carrick Wealth lies and attempting to hide the truth

I was one of the people involved in the Carrick scam when Mr Fannin meet in the UK that Mr Featherby helped arrange, once I noticed I was being scammed I contacted the FCA and this is the response;

I am writing this in my personal capacity as Group Managing Director for Carrick Financial Services (Pty) Ltd – “Carrick”.
Firstly, I left my ex-employment after 10 years of service and have since been bombarded with threats both legal and other relating to smearing my and Carrick's name on the internet together with statements being made that I/we would never be granted a license by the FSB and if we were, it would be temporary. It would make for a healthier situation if you discussed your grievances directly with us as opposed to via this forum. I am confident of no wrong doing on our part as we may be a new company but our entire management team is made up of upstanding, experienced individuals whom have years of experience in the industry.
Secondly, let me acknowledge that Carrick takes complaints of any nature extremely seriously and we are genuinely concerned when issues such as this are raised. However, it is virtually impossible to deal with an anonymous complaint to any degree that will satisfy the complainant as it makes any investigation impossible.
Notwithstanding the above, I would like to set some facts straight.
Carrick was officially incorporated on 26th May 2014, however that did not entitle us to trade as we were not yet an Authorized Financial Services Provider in terms of the current legislation. Carrick was granted a Juristic License on 20 August 2014 and our full license on 8 October 2014. I am unfortunately unable to take responsibility for your personal perceptions and feelings towards myself and Mike Fannin or our personalities – we are all entitled to our points of view about people we meet! I am also 100% confident that you and I have never met and indeed it was most likely you who submitted the “mystery” and most certainly anonymous complaint to the FSB against Carrick. Not only was it fully investigated by them, but they also found that there was absolutely no evidence to support the complaint (note, I say “no evidence”, as opposed to “insufficient evidence”). The FSB are obliged to investigate all allegations and complaints that are raised with them and are mandated to take the appropriate action where applicable. However, let me speak for myself and say that in the 6 years that I was responsible for running deVere Africa, that there was not a single compliant leveled against myself or my management team on this forum (or any other similar ones) or with any regulatory body. I simply fail to understand why you believe that I would change my behavior and ethics – especially given that I am now responsible for my own business? You are also clearly misinformed with regards “your money” and “how it is used” (as you state). NO client money is ever paid directly to Carrick, all trades and investments are done on the basis of a dealing instruction via the investment platform the client has set up and that is governed by independent regulation. As you can see, there are multiple levels of compliance required before any funds are invested and the “whereabouts” of these funds are known at all times by at least 3 different organisations who have all done their own due diligence on the investment options. In order for to get to the bottom of your complaint, please would you get in touch with me via legal@carrickfs.com and I will personally conduct an investigation into your allegations. I am writing as a service provider who began working with Craig, Brett and many of the other Carrick guys when they started in Financial Services in South Africa in late 2007. Nobody worked closer than I to Craig from outside his company so I had a very close proximity to all of the sales practices, his business ethics and his influence on the less experienced members of his team.

To my knowledge and right up until Craig started Carrick in August, he'd not one single entry of complaint on this ridiculous website and certainly in my five years of working with him, I never had ONE client complaint directed to me personally. So, in May he leaves and soon after he starts up his own venture and suddenly the message boards are full of filth and lies which are all obviously posted by *** and charlatans either employed or associated with the disgraceful joke of a company he's left behind. To any prospective client of Carrick....don't believe any of the absolute nonsense in this website. Craig remains one of the most principled and up standing pillars within the South African IFA industry and any client of Carrick I have no doubt will be looked after like absolute no other.

To the trolls filling these message boards with lies and filth, your days are so obviously numbered. I pity you.

I think it maybe yourself that needs to read the post again, the guy mentions he contacted the FCA after Mr Fannin came to the UK who is not regulated to give advice in the UK and at the time they both were not licence to provide financial advice and weren't even licence by the FSB.

You are so right!

I have been looking into my pension options recently and have had dealings with a number of potential providers. The *** charlatans and trolls” you so elegantly refer to in your post actually directed me to this site and suggested I take heed of the comments before making a decision.

I suspect these are also the same trolls who claim that positive responses to these comments are “rigged” – one of them even made reference to Hitler, which should already give you an indication of the levels they will stoop to!

There is zero moderation or fact checking when it comes to people posting comments, they can do so at no cost and with zero accountability, the same cannot be said for a company who wishes to respond in their official capacity – they need to pay to do so.

I am all for consumer rights and the protection of them, but unfortunately when forums such as these are used by those who are bullies and who fear competition, they hugely diminish the value of these forums.

I would sooner place my trust in somebody who has presented a series of solutions that address my needs, as opposed to the mindless noise of the trolls!

Carrick Wealth - Fake bloggers

I would like to submit my comments regarding the damaging emails on this site regarding Craig Featherby, Mike Fannin and Brett Taylor - Carrick Wealth.

Having worked closely with these gentleman for 4 years with my former employer. I'm disgusted to read all these fake blogs all of which couldn't be any further from the truth.

I couldn't have asked for a better regional manager than Craig Featherby. Always supportive, available and knowledgeable on all matters relating to financial planning in Africa. A qualified accountant by trade, an exceptional sales person and manager, and above all a man I respect within a tainted industy. I mention tainted because it is our former employer that resorts to dirty, underhand tactis. Actions of a playground in an industry responsible for managing people's money.

It's shameful to think in this day and age a man cannot leave one company, to develop his own business and ideas, create further opportunities for people and develop this industry. What ever happened to personal wishes and choices. His credibility is now being questioned by completely fake blogs by anonymous people (former employer) because they do not like healthy competition. In my opinion competition creates better performance, better products, services and ultimately improves the lives of the clients we aim to assist

I have also worked with Brett Taylor, a harmless gentleman. One such blogger called him a recovering alcoholic and drug abuser which is absolutely disgusting. I have personally known Brett for a long time and have never known him to be other than an upstanding, rational thinking professional. Its deplorable to falsely accuse anybody like this and I'd ask these anonymous bloggers to come out of the woodwork and identify themselves. There's no chance they ever will because they're too weak and pathetic.

I have also worked with Mike Fannin and there's a reason why he has been appointed as a senior director within Carrick Wealth. A knowledgeable individual and credible person.

For any prospective client reading this blog. I am a former colleague of these gentlemen, I also left my former employer and experienced similar problems, and at no point should any of these negative blogs put you off working with Carrick Wealth.

They're a regulated business, they have a compliance procedure, they do not receive any client cash direct, and recommend from the same top tier blue chip financial institutions that we all recommend.

Ignore the slurs ... they only serve to cheapen our industry and ruin it for all involved.

It is virtually impossible to deal with an anonymous complaint to any degree that will satisfy the complainant as it makes any investigation impossible - ironically, the same rationale is applied to any positive comments and feedback!

Human nature seems to dictate a tendency to dismiss positive reviews as being “placed” as opposed to the negative ones!

I was just out of university and it was tough to get a job because I had no prior experience, Craig gave me my first opportunity and backed me through the entire process when others in the company had their doubts.

Craig is the backbone of an organisation and is probably the most accessible and approachable senior management figure I have ever come across; he always has time to help and motivate no matter what the situation is.

Most importantly he has the ability to make a success out of something from the ground up and supports his staff through thick and thin. His commitment and drive is inspirational while always remembering the client comes first. I have always felt this is something I would like to emulate moving forward in my career

I just came across these posts on the recently discussed post on the right hand edge of the website and started reading the posts, I was firstly taken back by them but once I started reading the posts/personal references people had posted. This then made me think straight away that the original posts must be genuine and the guy in question has got other people to comment to try and cover up for him and try and paint him in a better light. My personal views is its clear whoever Mr Featherby maybe he is a wolf in sheep clothing.

That is a really interesting point of view Judith. What makes you think the original comments had any validity vs the replies that have been posted?

Every posting on this site is based on opinion - nothing is ever checked for accuracy or if there is any basis for the claims people make (positive or negative). These platforms allow consumers to post their opinions for free, a business or somebody in their personal capacity has to pay for the "privilege" of responding. Hardly seems fair?

Sadly all this ever does is feed the "trolls" out there who seemingly have nothing better to do and post under the veil of anonymity. At least the gentleman in question was prepared to post in his personal capacity and offer those complaining an opportunity for direct communication - not something I have seen anybody else do?

To all reading this absolute and utter garbage.

To my understanding Carrick-Wealth operates in South Africa? With this said why are these complaints being posted on an American based website? The answer is obvious is it not? The poster of this farce is merely trying to exploit a new brand that has stated had not even started trading when this "incident" occurred.

Why was this comment placed in a forum outside of South African regulatory control with regards to defamation and accusation? Is it not clear to all the readers that this is a blatant and obscene attempt to stem an otherwise reputable company that acts within fit and proper regulation. The reason that you posted this complaint is owing to the fact that you knew Pissed Off Consumer is merely a conduit for complaints by disgruntled competition, ex employees and in VERY rare cases ACTUAL clients. Which one are you??

Unless you are a complete and utter fool and wired money into an advisor's bank account to invest (and then you deserve to loose everything) ,you have absolutely no base for complaint. If you have a genuine complaint that is valid, the FSB would not have granted a licence to Carrick which last I checked was still there.

This entire post makes me sick in the fact that you are actively trying to ruin the reputation of one of the greatest and most genuine men I have ever met in both Craig Featherby and Brett Taylor.

If anyone reads this and has any doubt, do your own research and ask yourself ONE question: Why is a man that has been in financial services for the past decade and had never had a single complaint registered against him suddenly hit the spotlight after spending millions to construct his own company. Here is a hint: Competition is legal and take that how you want to.

You certainly raise some very valid and pertinent points in your post and pose some “food for thought” questions.

As an organization, we acknowledge that there will always be differing points of view; some based on actual experience and sadly, some intended to be nothing more than malicious in their nature.

Forums such as these are important in that they provide an outlet for these varying points of view – unfortunately the veil of anonymity allows individuals to post whatever they wish regardless of the validity of such comments.

We do not believe that this is the correct forum to debate the validity of comments or even attempt to respond or justify the statements that are made. I had the pleasure of working directly with Craig for a period of four years. He has a wealth of knowledge in financial services and in general business too.

Craig is a man of firm morals and ethics and he is one of the most driven, motivated, positive and passionate individuals I have ever met.

I have always admired his inspiration to succeed, which is phenomenal and he tackles everything that he does with 150% determination and commitment.

He is professional, fair, honest and humble. His honour and loyalty is reflected in the amount of respect received by all colleagues and peers, while his positive influence is always present.

Not only is Craig a highly successful businessman, a great manager and leader but he is also a real "family man." He has a heart of gold and he gives so much back to the community.

Over the years Craig has not only become a mentor to me but he has become a close friend.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr Featherby for 6 years in both a personal and professional capacity. His business and charitable foundation are both clients of mine.

Mr Featherby is an extremely compassionate, competent, dedicated, intelligent, organised, and personable gentleman.

How interesting reading these threads......They call us everyday sometimes 5 times a day, even though we have made it quite clear that we are not interested in any of their services. It's getting towards harassment.

I have known Craig Featherby for almost 7 years now, and having been closely involved with him in various business transactions over this period, I feel adequately qualified to provide this letter of reference.

If there is one thing about Craig that really stands out, it would be his impeccable integrity which he projects naturally and with great ease into his working relationships. I have found his work ethic to be irreproachable and, to be exact, simply without comparison in the modern business environment.

Craig is a highly principled man who strongly believes that right is right and almost right is wrong, no exceptions.

Craig may forgive me for sharing his selfless act of mercy with the reader when every year around Christmas he loads a truck full of presents, food and clothes in Cape Town and personally delivers this to the destitute, unknown poor people of Swellendam to ensure they also experience the goodwill and joy of Christmas. Greater empathy with those in need is hard to imagine.

Craig is a gentleman in the true, old-world sense of the word, and I would gladly recommend him to anyone who are looking to engage with a person of impeccable integrity, immensely gifted leadership qualities, and unimpeachable character.

I have personally known Craig for the last couple of years and I find it quite interesting that he is basically described as a ‘thug’ considering that he was able to build up companies from nothing to something in a matter of years but also doing this in a strict financial reporting jurisdiction. It’s a poor and frankly pathetic attempt to prompt some type of response and if I didn’t know better I would assume it is a smear campaign.
